Breakfast 10/20-10/23

Sunday, October 19, 2008

Yesterday I had a tortilla with peanut butter and red raspberry preserves.

Today I had a tortilla with peanut butter and red raspberry preserves, and a tortilla with margarine and nutritional yeast.

Starting tomorrow, I will be posting images of my breakfast. Because I do not have a functional camera, the pictures will be drawn or painted.

"Hashbrowns and dry white toast."

Such a pitiable sentence fragment, delivered in raspy tones at six in the morning to an amused server. But what a delight to receive a mound of shaved, greased, and fried potatoes, flanked by four soon-to-be-jellied triangles of simple carbohydrates. What a joy to squirt ketchup into a flower shape, and pour sugar into your seventy-five cent all-you-can-drink coffee.

What would I do without the occasional all-night work session, fueled only by momentum, and inspired not by need, but by nostalgia and the desire to find the best music the internet can provide?

Back to the tortillas. This one was a closer to flatbread, but freshly cooked, with some peanut butter and red raspberry preserves.

I forewent breakfast today and instead made vegan chicken noodle soup. No cookbooks I have, vegan or otherwise, have a recipe for anything related, so I used Better than Bouillon, fettuccine, some more defrosted tofu (cubed and sauteed with onions, which also went in the soup), some olive oil, and a handful of frozen parsley. It didn't seem to "pop" quite enough so I added some paprika and nutritional yeast.

The soup turned out a bit salty (for me, not for my roommate who also ate some) because of the bouillon, but I called my grandmother and she said that it could be remedied by putting some potato in when I reheat it.

I still have a cold, at any rate.

I followed up yesterday's sad breakfast with a (comparatively) awesome one.

Frozen, then unfrozen, tofu, sauteed with (frozen) spinach, sweet onions, and heirloom pepper (seasoned with salt and pepper and some Italian secrets).

Also a toasted hamburger bun, one half with peanut butter and chocolate sauce, the other half with margarine and my homemade gooseberry-apple jam.

And a cup of soy milk.

Leftover flour tortilla, topped with peanut butter and raisins.

Oh geez I must have eaten three burritos.

Improperly-sealed bread becomes icy when frozen. Icy bread becomes soggy when toasted. Such things remain edible.

Today I weighed my options, and decided to take no action.
